Around the year 600, Bowling spread to other parts of the world, including China and Germany. In Germany, Bowling was known as “Kegeln”, which means “to strike or knock down”. Kegeln became very popular in Europe during the Middle Ages. By the 1500s, there were over 200 bowling lanes in London!

Bowling continued to grow in popularity and by the 1800s, Bowling alleys could be found all over the United States. The game became especially popular in New York City. In 1848, the first Bowling club was founded in New York.
